Introduction:Hirsutism is one of the major problems in women referring to skin clinics. One of the causes of hirsutism is hyperprolactinemia. This study was performed with aim to evaluate the changes in prolactin hormone in women with this disease. Methods:This cross-sectional study was performed on 200 patients with hirsutism referring to skin clinic of Babol Yahyanejad Hospital in 2013. At the second or third day of menstruation, experiments were performed for all the patients to determine hormone levels. Finally, 200 patients without PCOS were studied. Also, a questionnaire including a careful history and physical examination was scheduled for all the patients. Data was analyzed by SPSS statistical software (version 16). P Results:Twenty five patients (12.5) had Hyperprolactinemia. No significant relation was found between hyperprolactinemia with marital status, history of galactorrhea, family history of hirsutism and infertility (P>0.05). However, significant difference was observed between hyperprolactinemia and menstrual disorders (P=0.043). Conclusion: Although hyperprolactinemia is a rare cause of hirsutism, but its prevalence was high in this study. Therefore, evaluation of blood prolactin levels should be considered in hirsute patients.
