Introduction: Job satisfaction is the extent of positive emotions and attitudes that people have towards their jobs. Identifying the effective factors on job satisfaction plays an important role in the outcomes and efficiency of the organization and even personal life. Majority of studies reveals that job satisfaction is influenced by job, superior, coworkers, position upgrade and income. According to the key role of midwifes as the effective workers of a health system for providing midwifery service to two vulnerable groups of society which are mothers and children, this study was performed with aim to identify job satisfaction and some related factors in the midwifes employed at the hospitals affiliated to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and social security hospitals in Tehran. Methods: This coefficient descriptive study was performed on 150 midwifes employed at the hospitals affiliated to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and social security hospitals in Tehran. Data collection tool was JDI job satisfaction questionnaire. Analysis of data was performed using SPSS statistical software (version 17) and analysis of variance, chi-square, Mann-Whitney and Spearman tests. PResults: The majority of subjects (80) had average job satisfaction. From 5 dimensions related to job satisfaction, most midwifes had average satisfaction in one dimension of job and occupation and had low satisfaction from other dimensions including direct supervisor, coworkers, position upgrade and income. Also, there was no significant relationship between general job satisfaction and age, job history, type of university and type of employment, but significant relationship was found between general job satisfaction and marital status (P=0.017), monthly income (P=0.039), and organizational post (P=0.048). Conclusions: According to the average job satisfaction of employed midwives, they probably will have more job satisfaction if they work in the scope of their job description and assume the management responsibilities.
