Abstract

Introduction: Wife abuse is defined as any sort of mal-behaving with the spouse and consist of a range of injuries from psycho-physical to death.  Materials and Methods: In this cross sectional study 816 cases of wife abuse were assessed in the survey since 2006 to 2007, whose information were extracted according to special questionnaires from their case-sheets and finally analyzed with SPSS-13 program.  Results: Mean age of men was 32.77±8.23 and for women was 27.34±5.83 and mean marriage duration was 8.24±4.98 years. The mean level of education, in women was diploma since in men was end of guidance school. Addiction rate in men was 43.3. Most of women were not pregnant. The most common job between abused women was housewife and between husbands had their own business. Families mostly had one or no child. Most of women gave previous history of being abused by their partner. Conclusion: Based on this study, addiction and low level of education are important factors in partner violence against women. Therefore importance of improving knowledge about marriage and couple life in the early years adopt necessary measures in order to prevent addiction are important strategies for preventing violence against women.
