Introduction: Health-promoting behaviors of lifestyle during pregnancy preserve women health in order to deliver healthy infant and reduce the risk of low birth weight. The present study was designed to determine the relationship between mother's lifestyle during pregnancy and low birth weight term neonates. Methods: Subjects of this historical cohort study included 1177 mother who referred to the health-care centers for postpartum care or child's vaccinations in two months and also had health records. A three-part questionnaire was used as a data-collection tool which included: newborns characteristics, mothers’ demographic characteristics and maternal lifestyle during pregnancy that was completed from maternal health records and organized interview of mothers. The data were analyzed by SPSS statistical software version16, statistic-descriptive, chi-square, Fisher, Lemeshow, Mann Whitney tests, multiple logistic regressions in WaldBackward method. P value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Results showed that the relationship between lifestyle of the mother during pregnancy with newborn’s birth weight was statistically significant (p<0.004). In each of the domains of lifestyle, the chance of low birth weight increased in mothers who had lower activity, rest and social relation during pregnancy than mothers who were in good condition respectively 8.87 time (p<0.039, OR=8.87) and 4.73 times (p<0.002, OR=4.73). Also, the correlation between low birth weight and nutritional status during pregnancy was statistically significant (p<0.008). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, mothers can be trained about proper lifestyle during pregnancy to prevent low birth weight and its complication in infants.
