Abstract

Infertility is a major negative event in life which leads to mental problems and emotional stressful experiences. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral stress management (CBSM) therapy on marital satisfaction in infertile women referring to infertility and gynecology clinics in Yazd, central part of Iran. Materials and Methods: This is a quasi experimental study with pretest-post test design which has a control group and 1 month follow-up. Twenty four infertile women referring to infertility and gynecology clinics in summer 2009 were selected by using available sampling and randomly divided to two experiment and control group (12 women in each group). The experiment group received CBSM therapy for 10 weekly sessions. Data was gathered by using Enrich marital satisfaction and demographic characteristics questionnaires and was analyzed by using SPSS-15 with descriptive statistic and analysis of covariance. Â Results: The finding showed that mean scores of marital satisfaction in experiment group has increased significantly in comparison with the control group (P=0.001) in post test and follow-up. Â Conclusion: Results suggested that CBSM therapyis effective on marital satisfaction in infertile women. According to low marital satisfaction in this group and the effectiveness of mental interventions for them, psychological treatments could be useful in these patients. Â
